Mickey and Minnie Celebrate Thanksgiving with Tom Turkey!!

Part of the Disney Sketchbook Holiday Tablescape Series

Disney Sketchbook Holiday Tablescape Series

If this is your first time to my website – Welcome to the lake!! I’m glad you’re here! If you have been here before – Welcome Back! Those who have been here before likely are already familiar with the “Disney Sketchbook Holiday Series” – which started with a summer “Drawing Disney Tablescape” and morphed into a challenge I set for myself to see if I could do a tablescape for each Holiday using the Disney Sketchbook Dishes and Serving pieces, and often reusing the Disney flatware, mugs, glasses and napkin rings and sometimes even reusing the Disney characters centerpieces as well. The idea is to be able to use one set of dishes, to create about 13 different holiday tablescapes. The goal is to not have to purchase 13 pricey sets of dishes to celebrate the holidays, and also to not have to find a way to store 13 different sets of dishes. (Not that I’m against having lots of sets of dishes…as I LOVE dishes…and I guess that kind of explains my storage problem, doesn’t it?!?) Anyway, my hope is that these tablescapes will inspire Disney enthusiasts, friends, parents and grandparents to plan some “holiday kid’s tables” or tables for “kids at heart”.

Below are photos from my first Disney Sketchbook table – entitled The “Drawing Disney” Table.

If you would like to try this idea yourself, no worries about finding the Sketchbook dishes – any black and white Disney dishes will do. I do recommend Mickey and Minnie as your main characters, however, as it is so much easier to find Mickey and Minnie character centerpieces for each holiday than it is with the other Disney characters.

At the end of the post, I will include a link to the seven other Disney Sketchbook Holiday Tablescapes I have done so far.

Today’s Tablescape is “Mickey and Minnie Celebrate Thanksgiving!!”

Since I already know that in each of these tablescapes, I am going to use the Zrike Disney Sketchbook plates, my main decisions are what to use as the centerpiece, napkin rings, plate stack and placemats or tablecloth.

Because Thanksgiving Disney items are a little harder to find than Halloween or Christmas, I decided to search online for either “Greeters” or “Porch Greeters” or “Plush” Disney characters. I especially like the “greeters” as they are large (14″ to 24″) and stand well independently. I have seen greeters occasionally at CVS, Hobby Lobby, Lowe’s, Walmart, Amazon and eBay. If you happen to know of any other places to get them, please let me know, as I’m always looking for new designs and new places to find them.

Below you will find some of the “greeter” choices available on eBay for fall and/or Thanksgiving this year.

I chose the Pilgrim Greeters. I wish they had Mickey and Minnie Native Americans too, because Thanksgiving without the Pilgrims AND Native Americans just doesn’t seem right. (can you tell I was a teacher?)

I decided to add a Plush Turkey – not to be the meal, but to be a guest at the dinner. This plush Turkey has been a Thanksgiving Decoration at our house, I believe since our son was 4 – he’s now 29 – so hard to believe he is that “old”- since I am still the same age as I was then – at least in spirit!!

I named this Turkey Plush – “Tom” and added him to my Tablescape.

Plate Stack

My next decision was what to use in the plate stack besides the Zrike Disney Sketchbook Salad Plates. As I often do, I tried a few options out and photographed them.

Plate Stack options.

The Plate Stack was assembled as follows:

Other Items in the Place Setting

Other items in the place setting are the Oneida Golden Affection flatware (I love gold flatware with fall colors), the gold napkins (Amazon), the Vintage Pilgrim napkin rings (eBay) the gold goblets (Homegoods), and the Mickey and Minnie figural mugs (also Homegoods).

Other Autumn Items in the Dining Room

I added some new and old Autumn items to the Dining Room. The new fall leaf arrangements were ones I found while we were in Foley, Alabama a few weeks ago. I was shocked to see an “Old Time Pottery” store on our trip, because I had never seen an “Old Time Pottery”store, although, I had heard a lot about the store on one of my favorite websites – Between Naps On the Porch. I was so excited to get to shop in one, and even more excited to realize that their fall items were already 50% off.

New Fall Leaf Arrangements from Old Time Pottery:

Another new item is my sunflower arrangement that we purchased at the Birmingham Christmas Village in our Sheraton/Westin Downtown hotel.

The above is a rather odd, panoramic picture of the Dining Room Window Sill – odd because there is no curve in the window or window sill at all – obviously a camera operator error (by me), but still a rather cool effect.

Thanks so much for stopping by to celebrate Thanksgiving, with Minnie, Mickey, Tom & our family.

We Wish You a Wonderful Thanksgiving, Full of Special Guests and Many Blessings!

Tablescape Origins and Details for Mickey and Minnie’s Thanksgiving Tablescape

Disney Zrike Sketchbook Salad Plates, Butter Dish, Sugar bowl and creamer – Homegoods approximately 2019-2023 Zrike Brands by R squared – Homegoods (sold at various times over the last 4 years) – also available on eBay.  When searching for these plates on eBay and other websites, use “Disney Sketch Book plates” or “Disney Sketchbook plates”, or “Mickey Mouse plates” as different sellers will list them differently. Wow Patty that table is just darling!! I love your whole Disney concept, and I can’t wait to look at the other tables you’ve done. I can totally sympathize with your china inventory and storage problems though. I figured out a great way around them both, if you’re interested. https://wp.me/pa97AZ-44W
Plus I just love your gorgeous view. I can indulge my unfulfilled wish to live on the water with your posts. Thanks for the fun ideas, and Happy Thanksgiving!

Barbara, Thank you so much for the wonderful message about my Mickey and Minnie Thanksgiving Tablescape post! I’m so glad you enjoyed it, and the lake views also.

I checked our your link of https://wp.me/pa97AZ-44W and loved the glass plates you made. I can think of many tablescapes where I would love to make some plates to go with the theme. What a wonderful way to work around storage issues. Do you eat off the plates, or are they strictly for looks (either would work – just wondering!)

Thanks so much for your comment, and for sharing your wonderful idea! Patty

Cynthia, I’m so glad you like my Mickey and Minnie Thanksgiving Tablescape! I have had such fun creating tablescapes for the 7 (so far) holidays around the Disney sketchbook dishes. I too am wondering what Mickey and Minnie will be doing for Christmas. I think I need to be laying that out soon to see if what I’m thinking of will look right on the size table we have. I appreciate your comment soooooo much! Thank you – Patty
