Mickey and Minnie “Get Their Green On” for a St. Patrick’s Day Tablescape

Part 2 in the “Disney Sketchbook Holiday Tablescape Series” which will include at least 10 Different Holiday Tablescapes Using the Same Set of Dishes

Part 2 in the Disney Tablescape Series – The series plan is to post at least 10 different tablescapes (9 tablescapes for 9 different holidays, and 1 all season tablescape) using the same set of dishes and flatware in each. The series will unfold over the next two years. The first tablescape in this Series was “Drawing Disney” Tablescape – “Disney Love” for All Seasons  which celebrates Disney Animation, and is a tablescape that can be used for any or all holidays and seasons. However, for today’s Disney Tablescape and the ones to come, each will focus on only one particular holiday or season.

Two Different Tablescapes (as of the time of writing this) Using the Same Set of Dishes

For this St. Pat’s tablescape, I took many items from the “Drawing Disney” Tablescape below, including dinnerware and flatware. See below for today’s St. Patrick’s Day table side by side with the tablescape from which I “borrowed” so many items .

Mickey and Minnie Greeters – The Main Characters

In addition to “borrowing” the dinnerware and flatware from the “Drawing Disney Tablescape” I also reused all plush animals (except Mickey and Minnie) all cart items, most side table items, the napkin rings, Mickey Glove – Corn on the Cob Holders, logo serving platter, candles, etc. In fact the only “new to me” items for this tablescape were the St. Patrick’s Day Mickey and Minnie greeters, a few additional Dollar tree costume pieces, the Kelly Green Napkins, and the green Pot O’ Gold that Pluto is sitting in.

I purchased the Mickey and Minnie St. Patrick’s Day Greeters from eBay. As there were many of these on eBay in “new” condition, it led me to believe that these were likely recent items. I’m guessing they were originally from Hobby Lobby or Homegoods for this season. If you saw them anywhere online or in stores at regular or sale price, please let me know. Although I love secondary sellers, because my plan is to do 10 Mickey and Minnie Holiday Tablescapes, I am hoping I get to purchase the Mickey and Minnie holiday characters at regular price, rather than collector, secondary sale prices.

Other Disney Characters Join the Party

I also purchased some additional Dollar Tree St. Patrick’s Day party outfit accessories, such as various neckties, hats and a bow to use with other costume accessories I had from my St. Patrick’s day dog tablescape. I used these costume items as “dress up items” for the Disney plush “party guests”.

Donald Duck (above) is wearing a felt Leprechaun hat that includes orange yarn hair, a necktie, and shamrock sunglasses. Meanwhile, Daisy Duck has a huge green sparkly bow, and a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day necklace.

Goofy (above) is wearing a green neck tie, and a leprechaun hat with a orange beard.

I added the Pluto plush to the Pot O’ Gold because a gold dog seemed to belong in a Pot ‘O GOLD.

I added the St. Pat’s sunglasses to Pluto in The Pot ‘O Gold. The Pot of Gold provided an very stable base for Pluto, enabling him to sit up in a way that enables his cool glasses to be seen.

Tablecloth, Placemats, and Napkins

I used a white table cloth on this table, with Shamrock placemats on top. The placemats have a dual sided design – solid green on one side, with a multicolor shamrock pattern on the other. They are from Kohl’s from about 4 years ago. My original plan was to have the solid green side up because the green color of the placemat is an exact match to the green on Mickey and Minnie. However, after trying both placemats out, I thought the multicolor shamrocks added some “Pizazz” as we used to say. Occasionally, I take pictures of my various ideas, and then compare them side by side to decide which idea to run with, which is something I did in this case. Not sure why pictures give me a better feel for the tablescape options, but I’ve noticed many shoppers, artists and interior designers use photos as well. I think for me, it allows me to see the exact colors and to focus on either part of the table in a photo, or the whole room depending on what I photograph and how I photograph it. .

Below is a picture showing the solid green placemat option at 2 of the place settings. Which placemat side to you prefer for St. Patrick’s Day? Is there anything else you would add to the dining room? I was wondering if it needs some shamrock ornaments on the lit tree, or on the chandelier. Your thoughts?

Disney Sketchbook Dinnerware by Zrike

I used the Disney Sketchbook dinnerware in this tablescape because I like the way this pattern focuses attention on the animation art behind the movies. I mixed the characters in each place setting because I don’t have all pieces in some of the characters. In our area, the Pluto and Donald Duck pieces were the hardest to find. If you are wanted to do a Disney tablescape, using the same dishes for different holidays, I think any Disney black and white dinnerware would work, including the bamboo (which includes the bamboo Disney dinnerware, which has an added benefit of not being breakable – a great feature if you are doing a children’s table). Some of the Disney Dinnerware has black, white and RED. I think the red might reduce the versatility of the dinnerware – its great for Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Patriotic holidays, but limits you for St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, Easter and Thanksgiving.

The Plate Stack

The “plate stack” consists of the following, 1. Placemat, 2. Dinner plate 3. Salad plate and for step 4, I added the Mickey Corn on the Cob holders, positioning them as if the hands were holding the dinner plate. Note: the Mickey hands corn on the cob holders are a bit sharp, so you may not wish to use them in a tablescape for really young children. Each plate stack has a place setting of Disney Icon flatware, purchased by me at both eBay and shopDisney.com as the set is, at times – available at shopdisney.com and at times – not.

Some of the different salad plate/dinner plate combos I used are shown below.

Items that I can see myself using again on Disney or even non-Disney tablescapes are the placemats, napkins and green glass goblets. The Disney items, will primarily work just for other Disney tablescapes in the future.

More Characters from the “Wonderful World of Disney”

Our dining room is currently displaying other Disney items too. I believe these go well with this St. Patrick’s Day table as many have their “favorite” Disney characters and this gives you a chance to feature more of them. You can see these items in the below photos.

You can get more information on the items used in this post, as well as information about where they were or might be acquired, in the “Tablescape Details and Origins” section that follows the tablescape info.

Table Details and Origins

Disney Mickey Mouse Greeter – May have been sold at Homegoods or Hobby Lobby this year, but I purchased mine on eBay.

Disney Minnie Mouse Greeter – May have been sold at Homegoods or Hobby Lobby this year, but I purchased mine on eBay.

Shamrock Reversible placemats – Kohl’s – about 4 years ago

Green napkins – Amazon -AGN linen satin 18″ by 18″ napkins in Kelly green

Pot o’ Gold (Green Plastic) – Amazon

Pot o’ Gold Party Favors (Small Black Plastic) – Dollar Tree 2022 and 2023

Gold Coins – non-edible – Dollar Tree 2022 and 2023 – I use non-edible ones so our dogs don’t help themselves when we have our backs turned. I only switch to chocolate (which is toxic to dogs) when we are about to sit down at the table to eat and there is “dog supervision”. When I don’t have a non-toxic substitute I put the favor cups on top of the refrigerator until meal time. (can you tell our new “puppy” is an eater?)

St. Patrick’s Day Dress-up or Costume pieces – Glasses, hats, etc. – Dollar Tree

Disney Sketch Book Dinnerware, water glasses and Serving Pieces – Zrike Brands by R squared – Homegoods (sold at various times over the last 4 years) – also available on Ebay.  These also come in the Bamboo version, which may be better for very young children.  I think any black and white Disney pattern is a good start for an “All Season” Disney table.

Daisy Duck Plush – ShopDisney.com

Donald Duck Plush – ShopDisney.com

Pluto Plush – ShopDisney.com

Goofy Plush – ShopDisney.com

Disney Flatware – Shop Disney.com

Mickey Mouse Ears Napkin Rings – vintage item available at times on Ebay or Etsy

Mickey and Minnie figural head mugs (on teacart) – Homegoods – available many times of the last 3 years

Learn to Draw Disney Mickey & Friends” Book – Amazon

“Learn to Draw: Celebrated Character Collection”Book – Amazon

Lumiere Candelabra – Amazon

Disney mini figures – Walmart, Target, Ebay and Amazon are all possible sources

Mickey and Minnie Salt & Pepper shakers – Homegoods – available multiple times over the last 4 years

Goofy and Snow White Cookie Jars – Homegoods – These and other Disney cookie jars have been available occasionally in the last few years

Mickey Mouse Gloved Hands Corn on the Cob holders – no longer available at shopdisney.com but there are quite a few for sale on eBay.

Mickey Mouse Symbol Serving Bowl – Homegoods – a few years ago

    Hi Patty —
Adorable St Patrick’s Day table scape. (If I put those two words together, it autocorrects to “tableware.”) I love Pluto as the gold in the pot! Placemats: I prefer the printed side over the plain green. Happy Shamrock Day!

    • Patty | 4th Mar 24

Nancy, It’s great to hear from you!! Thanks so much for visiting my website and commenting! I’m glad you liked Pluto as the “gold” in the pot! Thanks for sharing your choice of the patterned over the solid green side of the placemat, (I agree with you) Wish you and Dennis and Caesar lived close enough to pop over for a meal at this table!! Happy Shamrock day to you too! – Patty
