A Haunted Halloween for the Bride and Groom Bicycling Skeletons

A fast, fun and frugal tablescape (or at least relatively frugal one)

A Lakeside Tablescape for Halloween

This year, I found some skeleton salad plates at Homegoods, and I decided to I wanted to make a Tablescape using them. As those of you who follow my blog know, most of our tables are very large. We only have one main dining area inside the lake house, therefore, we purchased a large table for that room, so as to be able to entertain groups at the lake. We also purchased a large outdoor table for the dock for the same reason, and I love the versatility of these tables. However, each of our long tables is over 100″ and seats 8-12, and at times they seem a bit too large for a more intimate dinner with 2-4 people. About a month ago, I decided to us our small round table as a dining table for two, although it usually is used as a serving, meal prepartation, or grilling station table. You can read about that first small table tablescape at the following link:

This is how the dock looks, now that its tables have been rearranged to utilize both tables for lakeside dining. Have you tried different sized tables for your tablescapes? What do you find is the size and shape of your most frequently used tables?

The Plates

This week, as October was nearing an end, I realized I needed to get busy on my tablescape with the new plates, as I wanted to try it out before Halloween. I had planned to do this tablescape in the dining room, however my husband really wanted us to stick with last week’s tablescape “Dancing Skeletons” until after Halloween was over. As I love the dancing skeletons too, I decided to do the new tablescape outside on the dock. So Welcome to the Dock!!! It is one of our favorite places to eat, due to the entertainment of boats, jet skis, and people skiing, tubing, and wake boarding, its lake view, and the way it is often cooler than the rest of the yard because of the lake breeze.

The plates that served as the catalyst for this new tablescape are made by 222 Fifth, and feature a “Him” and “Her” skeleton bicycling, and also a Dapper “Him” and Dapper “Her” – all dressed up in their fancy hats. Pattern name is “Bicycle Skeleton” for the top 2 plates and “Dapper Skeleton” for the bottom 2 plates. Replacements.com further identifies each plate by calling them “him” or “her” in addition to the pattern name.

I love the way these plates inspire different kinds of tablescapes – one can do only the girl skeletons for a girls’ night, only the boy skeletons for a guys night. Certain plates can be used for a romantic dinner. Just the bicycle ones (see below) pair well with a bicycling figurine like the one I used, or with two life sized posable skeletons on real bikes.

The dapper skeletons below pair with with any skeleton figurines, or posable skeletons with fancy hats and fancy clothes. I bought 2 plates of each style so I could mix them different ways for different tablescapes. The below Dapper Skeletons, would also be great on a haunted house themed tablescape, as each skeleton is standing outside a house, that definitely looks “haunted”.

The Plate Stack

In my previous experience with this small table, I became aware that 2 chargers and a centerpiece on a table this size is way too tight of a fit, and I therefore decided to do a “short stack” of plates today. I used only a black dinner plate (10 1/2″ diameter) with a 222 Fifth Skeleton salad plate on top. This plate stack, added to the 2 napkins with napkin rings, the centerpiece and the flatware literally filled the 30″ diameter table.

The Flatware is Skeleton Flatware from Amazon . The napkin rings are a skeleton hand, and were purchased at Pottery Barn, while the wine glasses were purchased at Homegoods. All 3 of these items were originally purchased for the Dancing Skeleton tablescape.

The Centerpiece

The centerpiece I used was a Rachel Zone figurine of a bride and groom on a bicycle. I purchased it about 5 years ago from Homegoods. When I got out my Halloween boxes this year and looked at it I realized the “Him” and “Her” and the bicycle would make the figurine perfect for the Skeletons Bicycling tablescape.

Linens

The tablecloth used is from Homegoods. I love how the orange shows throw the lace and the spider’s web. I was a little disappointed to find out the orange lining is just plastic (like a garbage bag or disposable tablecloth) as I don’t know if it will handle the wind outside, but the lace layer is very nice, and the little cloth spiders hanging from the web make the tablecloth even cuter.

A Fast, Fun and Frugal Tablescape?

I was surprised at how quickly I was able to put this tablescape together. The size of the table limited the amount of items that could be used, and therefore, I only spent about 15 minutes putting it together. I was glad to realize that the small tablescapes can take so much less time. Now I know, with a meal for 2, I can plan a plan and put together a fun tablescape very quickly- as long as I keep it simple. As far as the “frugal” goes- many things on this table – like the figurine, the napkins, napkin rings, black dinner plates, wine goblets were things I already had, and all I needed to buy were the tablecloth and the salad plates. However, I believe that with a few changes, such as paper Halloween napkins, homemade or vintage napkin rings, and everyday flatware, this table could be made inexpensively and still provide the desired effect.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to our Lakeside Table.

Thanks so much for stopping by!! I’m hoping that you have a safe and Happy Halloween this year!!!!
