Tropical Bird Tablescape – Adventure Awaits in the “Tiki Room”

Tropical Birds in the “Tiki Room”

This week I am happy to share my Tropical Bird Tablescape! I found these Certified International plates in HomeGoods one day when they had just come in and I was able to get a a complete set of them. I was so excited about the plates because they reminded me of the postcards that we would send our grandparents from our various Florida and California vacations in the 1960’s and 1970’s. They also reminded me of the “Enchanted Tiki Room” at Disneyland and Disney World. As soon as I saw the macaw plate, my brain started singing “in the Tiki,  In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki tiki room; In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room; All the birds sing words, and the flowers croon; In the tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki, tiki room!” In addition to the catchy song, n Disneyland, when this exhibit was introduced it was the first time that Audio Animatronics technology was used. This technology was used to tell stories with lifelike figures, that “talked, sang, moved, and danced” while coordinating lights and music brought the stories to life. I remember the amazement I felt both at the technology and at the feeling of being immersed in a Disney movie.

These Certified International plates bring these vacation memorie to life right on my dining room table.

For more on the history of the “Tiki Room” exhibit and more details on the amazing amount of audio animatronics animals, flowers and tiki statues, in the room, you may want to check out the below post and the YouTube video.

The Tiki Dining Room and Tablescape Video

If you prefer to see the Tablescape, as you would see it, if you were a visitor to our home, please check out the below. Welcome to our home!!!

The Plate Stack and Other Dinnerware

All the dinnerware on this Table is from Homegoods from about 4 years ago.

The flowered cork board placemat is from HomeGoods as well. The bottom plate in the stack is a square Melamine plate made by Tommy Bahama.

On top of the yellow plate, is a Certified International plate from the “Paradise” pattern. The Toucan – “Welcome to Paradise – Adventure” plate from this pattern is pictured above. It is one of 4 different plates in this set.

The “Adventure Awaits – Explore” plate features two Scarlet Macaws…

while the “Good Time to Chill – Wander” plate features two flamingos…

and the “It’s Time to Escape – Travel” plate features two Sulfur Crested Cockatoos. I was especially excited about this plate as friends of ours have a very vocal & charming Cookatoo.

The pink flower bowl near the upper left corner of the placemat is by Maxcera. (also from HomeGoods).

I love this photo because the tropical look is carried on outside, with the palm trees at the lake. This still seems surprising to me – to look out the window and see palm trees, as I grew up in Ohio – which has a lot of beautiful scernery, but definitely not palm trees.

The Centerpieces

The Centerpieces include various toucan, and macaw figurines, as well as toucan, cockatoo, and macaw salt and pepper shakers, a toucan sugar and creamer set, a macaw pitcher, a palm leaf bowl with a macaw, and a flower bowl with toucan.

The figurines above are from the “Tropical Collection” and were purchased at HomeGoods a few years ago.

The Macaw pitcher is from Certified International and was purchased at HomeGoods as well. The toucan and macaw salt & pepper shakers in the above picture are from Sakura and were purchased on eBay.

The Cockatoo Salt and Pepper Shakers (upper left) are from Fitz and Floyd, are are sometimes available on eBay. The Toucan Sugar & Creamer are also from eBay, and were made for Cardinal, Inc.

The Butterfly candle holders above are Fitz and Floyd from eBay and Replacements, and were used in my recent butterfly tablescape too.

Flatware

The flatware is “Butterfly” by Godinger. Its available from Amazon. The flatware is stainless with gold butterflies. You may remember it from my butterfly tablescape.

Goblets

The goblets are hand blown art glass and were surprisingly sold at Oriental Trading Co. – to my remembrance. However, I only saw them there once. I’m assuming they didn’t sell well, as they were at a great clearance price when I purchased them.

Napkin Rings

Last table item, but certainly not least, are the napkin rings. I gathered these from various sets to try to match each bird on the plate. The Toucans are Cardinal Inc. , the parrot/macaw are Fitz and Floyd, the flamingos are unbranded. Unfortunately, I have never seen a Cockatoo napkin ring, so they are not represented.

The flamingo napkin rings are unbranded, but were perhaps made in a ceramics class, as one flamingo has initials on it. I love the way their necks “bend” as I think this captures the unique poses of real flamingos.

The parrot and macaw are from Fitz and Floyd. I love the two different colored birds and two different poses. They were made in Taiwan.

The Toucan napkin rings were made for Cardinal Inc. in Taiwan.

Also In the Dining Room

I made a flower arrangement using flowers from Hobby Lobby, and added them to my leaf vase. The vase was made by Kaldun and Bogle, and has a monkey handle – although its not visible in the photo. I turned the handle to face the back as it seemed to distract from the bird theme.

I hope you enjoyed the Tropical Bird Tablescape. Did it remind you of the Disneyland/Disney World Tiki Room? Are you singing the Tiki Room song in your head as I am? I was surprised to learn that the “Tiki Room” songwriter also wrote the “It’s a Small World” song. He or she seems to be an expert on catchy songs !!! I’d love to hear about your Disney or tropical adventures and also if you remember your first Audio Animatronics experience, I’d love to hear about that as well.
