A “Sweet” Valentine’s Day Table at Sunset

A Romantic Lakeside Tablescape at Sunset, for Valentine’s Day!

Welcome to the Lake!!! I’m so glad you could stop by for a Valentine’s Day Lakeside Dinner at Sunset!!!

I’ve been wanting to do a Romantic Tablescape for two at Sunset, and was planning to do it outside, as one of tables on the dock is much more suited for a romantic dinner for two, then are my other tables – which all seat 8. Unfortunately, the weather has been rather uncooperative, with lots of wind, and predicted 14 degree temperatures. However, on Saturday evening the wind died down and the cold front had not yet arrived, and I decided it would be a perfect time to do a practice run of a tablescape I’d been planning. The reason it was only a practice run was because my husband was tied up with the very important job of “armchair quarterback” for the first games of the NFL Wildcard Round. He was cheering for the Texans in the Texans vs Browns game.

So I went ahead and tried out my tablescape, in the hopes that on a good weather day, one with no football, we can put it together again for a romantic dinner or dessert at sunset.

As those of you who have stopped by for a visit for one of my other tablescapes know, my tables often begin with a “catalyst”. In this case, the catalyst was the adorable “Donut Couple” and “Love” sign I found at Homegoods in December. That’s right – December! It always surprises me that the Valentine’s Decorations at many places are put on the shelves a few weeks before Christmas!

The base for the plate stack, is the “Sweets & Desserts Valentine’s Day Tablecloth that I found at Homegoods that I found at Homegoods.(I’m not sure what brand the tablecloth is – but possibly “Cupcakes and Cashmere”) To my remembrance I found this tablecloth during a different week, at a different store, in a different city, then where I found the donut couple. If you haven’t shopped Homegoods, this is the adventure of Homegoods shopping. Its possible to find coordinated items in very different places, and to find them in different years as well. Many times I complete sets of dishes or goblets over a 2 – 5 year span of time. However, I was very glad to find the tablecloth and donuts in the same year, as I really wanted to use my donut people figurines this year!

The first plate in the stack is a transparent red plastic square plate approximately 14″ thatlooks like glass. It is made by Brothers and Sisters and sold as a serving tray at Hobby Lobby at Christmas time. I originally purchased them to use as chargers with some of my Christmas dishes.

The second plate in the stack is a Maxcera Valentine’s Day plate. The bicycle holds flowers, a wrapped gift, and heart balloons (it seems likesomeone is going to have a very nice Valentine’s Day with all those surprises!!) The Valentine’s Day bicycle plates were a find at Homegoods last month (December 2023)

The flatware I used has pink flowers and was purchased at Homegoods about 5 years ago. (see above photo)

Other items on the table and serving cart are heart shaped cupcake holders from Hobby Lobby with faux teacakes from Homegoods and…

Red Morgantown Glass “Golf Ball” Goblets (above and below)

For more about Morgantown Glass, please see my “Will You Be My Valentine?”Tablescape Post

In addition, pictured on the cart in the above photo, is a pink vase with pink roses, a Valentine’s Day Radio (from Homegoods),and heart beads from Dollar Tree.

A Blue Heron, fishing from the roof of our neighbor’s dock, enjoyed the sunset with me! (see in the picture above – in the distance; and below – up close.

On the side of the cart, I placed heart garland by Love & Cupcakes, and purchased at Homegoods.

The table I used for this Tablescape is only 30″ in diameter. When I use large plates and chargers, there is not a lot of room left, and the serving cart is a real help for extra decorations, and often serving bowls as well.

As always though, my favorite part of a Romantic Tablescape on the dock, is seeing the sunset!

Tonight’s sunset included a beautiful splotch of orange in the view at the end of the dock, and streaks of yellow and orange in front of the dock to the right that resembled paint brush strokes.
