Welcome to the Lake!! I’m so glad you could join us! Today I want to share a new Thanksgiving tablescape, in what is likely considered a “non-traditional” color pallet. If you have visited my website before, you likely realize that I often stick with traditional color schemes for the holidays because I really enjoy traditions, and because the “non-traditional” colors do not usually allow me to take advantage of the decor items for centerpieces, tablecloths, etc. that I already have.
I did however break with tradition this past Easter and I created an Easter tablescape using a blue and white color scheme. I must be getting braver with colors, as today I created a Thanksgiving Tablescape using mint green and pink. Although, I wondered in the beginning about how it would look; in the end, I loved it and was really glad I tried something new. I would love to hear your opinion of non -traditional holiday colors for tablescapes and other holiday decor.
Have you ever tried the non-traditional colors, and if so what colors did you try, for what holiday, and did you like your results? I’d love it if you would scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post and share your opinion in the Comment section.
However, since we have been at the lake, I have been looking for some china like, elegant dishes, that are dishwasher safe (which my gold edged china-at the city house-unfortunately, is not). I have also been hoping that I could find this new china in a flower/spring pattern that could be used for Easter, Spring and Summer, or even year round.
But before I go in to all the details of the making of the table, I would like to share some of the pictures of the finished Tablescape and our sunset.
I filmed the video below and posted it on my YouTube channel. You can see the video below by clicking the play button. You can then click “enlarge” if you want to see it full screen. The enlarge icon is the square in the lower right corner of the video “screen”. Youtube selects the video links that appear at the end of my video (which of course, you do not need to watch). Some of these links will be from my website and some will be selected by YouTube from other websites.
Last spring when I was checking out “Between Naps on the Porch” (one of my favorite blogger’s websites), I noticed that Susan had pictures of some of the spring dishes from Williams-Sonoma on her website, and that one of the patterns – “Famille Rose” seemed to have all the features I was wanting. So I stopped by Williams-Sonoma to check them out. To see Susan’s introduction to these Famille Rose dishes, and other spring dishes as well – check out “Shopping for Spring Dinnerware” on Between Naps on the Porch. Thanks so much for recommending these Susan!
I was really excited to learn that not only was this pattern good for Easter in general, it also has some alternative salad plates that are specifically for Easter!!! These Easter plates are not available currently on the Williams-Sonoma website, though I am still hoping they will be available at Easter time. In the meantime, as of today, the secondary sellers – Replacements and eBay – are carrying the Bunny Salad plates and also the assorted smaller Easter appetizer plates. After seeing all these choices for Easter; I decided to “go for it” and buy some dishes from this collection. Unfortunately, I made this decision a little too close to Easter to be able to get the pieces I wanted in time for our Easter Tablescape in 2024, so instead I will do that table in 2025. If you would like to see the Famille Rose collection please click on the following link – Williams-Sonoma “Famille Rose Collection”.
Once I selected these dishes, my first item on the table was the tablecloth. I chose a pink rosette tablecloth for this table. I first saw this tablecloth style on “Life and Linda“. Linda is one of may favorite bloggers and she chose to use her rosette satin tablecloth on her round table for Valentine’s Day. To see Linda’s post “Pink and Gold Valentine’s Table” click the link. In Linda’s post she mentioned that this table cloth was on sale at linentablecloth.com.
I purchased a 88″ by 154″ rosette tablecloth soon after seeing Linda’s table cloth even though I had no idea when I would use it, I just somehow knew that I would “need” it one day. Then, after I found these dishes, I decided that this tablecloth would be wonderful with this table! Thank you Linda!!!
The below picture shows a plate stack with one of the traditional (non-holiday) salad plates.
This fall I decided to check out the Williams-Sonoma website again as there were a few things I wanted to look at. As our closest Williams-Sonoma is over an hour away, sometimes online shopping is the easiest way for me to browse or shop. While on the website, I was surprised to see that a new salad plate had been made for my “Famille Rose” pattern, and it is for Thanksgiving. These turkey plates are currently on sale at Famille Rose Turkey Salad Plates. I ordered those plates and started to plan for the table I am sharing today.
The below picture shows a plate stack with the turkey salad plate on the top.
The bottom plate is a Famille Rose Charger from Williams-Sonoma, (not available currently). On top of it I placed a felt plate separator to keep the next plate from scratching the charger.
For my second plate in the stack, I chose a “Geranium Charger” by Bordallo Pinheiro (I have had these chargers for years), and then I placed a plate separator on top of it as I did on the charger, to avoid scratches. Of course, to get a very similar plate stack – any green leaf charger could be used. (green leaf plates and/or cabbage plates have been made by Bordallo Pinheiro, Maxcera, and Olfaire to name a few). Both Maxcera and Olfaire are occasionally sold at Homegoods).
For my third plate, I used the green dinner plate from the Famille Rose collection, and I topped that with the pink turkey salad plate.
My completed plate stack rims are shown below.
The Famille Rose charger only peeps out a little below the Geranium charger, but I like the look of it. However, I think the stack would be just as pretty with only the Geranium leaves charger.
Other items in each place setting include Oneida “Golden Affection” flatware; and…
…a Canton Rose Napkin from Williams-Sonoma and…
A Royal Albert Sculpted Rose Napkin Ring by Royal Doulton. I believe these napkin rings were originally made to coordinate with Royal Albert “Old Country Roses” china pattern – however, I think they are a perfect match for the Famille Rose Collection as well.
Each place setting also has a blown glass fuchsia goblet, with a heart stem from Homegoods (see below.)
Finally, each place setting is completed with a Pettit Four, a candy or a small cake on a heart shaped cupcake stand. I use faux candies and cakes when I am leaving a tablescape on display for more than an evening. This is for freshness of course, but also because the smell or fresh bakery attacts our pup Simba to things that are unsafe for dogs to eat and he is definitely tall enough to sneak something off my tablescape!!
The faux Pettit Fours and Pastries below are from Etsy, made by Christine Olsen at “Mrs. O’s Kitchen”. I just love the detail of Christine’s faux pastries and other items.
For one of my centerpieces and display items, I had planned to use the ceramic turkey I’ve had for many years (see below). The coloring the turkey is very, very similar to the turkey on the salad plate. However, when I placed the turkey on the tablecloth it really clashed.
I think the lack of either green or pink on the ceramic turkey kept it from complimenting the tablescape. So instead I chose to use a display of a gold turkey with pink and green pumpkins on the chest of drawers, and I like the look of that.
For the table itself, I added a grouping of pink and green pumpkins in the center, and I did a flower arrangement in a pink and green vase near each end of the table. (see below) The glass vases were originally vases that came with Teleflora Flower Arrangements, and they are occasionally for sale on eBay -which is where I purchased mine. I use a few of these Teleflora vases on my tables. The ones I used today have also been used with my hydrangea dishes, and I have other Teleflora Peter Rabbit vases and eggs in my Peter Rabbit Tablescape.
I love that this vase has both green and pink colored glass. The two colors together make them perfect for these plates and for both my hydrangea plates, and my flamingo plates.
I love having the pink and green pumpkins in the center of the table. All the pumpkins are from Amazon.

Canton Rose Napkins – Williams-Sonoma. Williams – Sonoma also carries a “Famille Rose” linen pattern, but I prefer these large pink roses with the pink tablecloth.
Pink Rose Tablecloth – from Linen Tablecloth – I first saw these on Life and Linda – Linda is another of my favorite bloggers.
Royal Albert by Royal Dalton Sculpted Napkin Ring with Roses – discontinued – eBay – Occasionally available on eBay, and at other secondary seller, vintage and antique shops. (I believe these were made originally to compliment “Royal Albert’s Old Country Roses” china pattern.)

As mentioned earlier, I would also love to hear if you have ever used non-traditional colors in your holiday decorations, or seen it done? If so I would also love it if you would tell me the holiday it was for, the colors used and whether you liked it or not. Is there a holiday (or holidays) that you feel needs to stay traditional? If so which one? Thanks so much!!!! To comment please scroll down to the very bottom of this post for the comment section.
