For my first “after Halloween” post, I wanted to do a table that captured the colors and beauty of fall. A few years ago I saw the above Robert Stanley plates in Hobby Lobby and loved the cute animals and fall colors on these plates, so I bought a few. (This pattern is still current with Robert Stanley, and is being sold at Hobby Lobby this year too.(2023) Later I added some bristle brush animals and collected some other things to make this tablescape.
I was raised near Cleveland, Ohio so watching the leaves change to beautiful colors was a part of my first 31 fall seasons. When we moved to Texas, I lost the splendor of fall and in its place gained a much more moderate winter, but I do miss fall!! To help make up for losing some of the fall colors, I like to bring a little of the fall “look” into the house.
My first decision on this tablescape was the tablecloth question. Because our lake house has just one table, our formal table is also our “everyday” table. Because of that it is often practical to stick with no tablecloth, but this time I wanted to see the animals with a tablecloth background.
When I’m selecting a tablecloth for a table, I often grab a folded tablecloth, or a napkin, and try out just one place setting on it to see which has the best “look”. I thought I would chose my gold tablecloth, but instead I chose the beige/gold Waterford tablecloth I purchased and Homegoods a few weeks ago. I photographed my choices, as that seems to make it easier to choose. I chose the one one on the right, because I liked both the pattern (leaves) and the color.
Which one is your favorite?
The above photo shows this year’s “Plate Stack”; where as the below photo shows the plate stack in 2021 consisting of a square wicker charger, a Bordallo Pinheiro Geranium charger and Dinner plate, and the Robert Stanley “Fall Critter” plate. This year’s table has a tablecloth, and last year’s table did not. Which tablescape and plate stack do you prefer?
The first 2 times I set a Fall Animal Tablescape, I did it with dinner plates and chargers that I had purchased previously which gave it a much different look, but as time went on and Hobby Lobby’s plates went on their 50% off sale I decided to add some different plates to my “plate stack”. This year my plate stack is all from Hobby Lobby, and the placemats are from Homegoods. This year’s plate stack is as follows.
The four different animal plates and mugs are pictured below:
The Fox
The Hedgehog
The Raccoon
The Owl
I love the detail of the figural mugs in this Robert Stanley pattern.
Also in each place setting is one golden glass goblet. I love the look of these goblets and their large 20 oz. size because we use them for water or soda, and the large size holds both the amount of ice needed in the Texas heat and a beverage.
I also love the raised pattern on the glass. Because the pattern is not holiday specific, we find we use them often. I found these goblets a few years ago at Homegoods at Christmastime.
The flatware used with this place setting is Golden Affection by Oneida. This is the flatware pattern we chose for our wedding silverware 35 years ago, and I still love it. The pattern is discontinued but often available on eBay. I like the look of gold flatware with the goblets and the fall colors on the plates.
I used the napkins that match the tablecloth used. Both napkins and tablecloth are “Waterford – Tralee Champagne Leaves”. Although I purchased the tablecloth at Homegoods, I was unable to find the napkins at any local Homegoods (we have 3 in our neighboring vicinity) but I did find them on eBay and purchased them there.
The Napkin rings were a gift, many years ago from my sister-in-law and brother-in-law. I believe similar ones can at times be found at Hobby Lobby or Amazon.
The central centerpiece is a fall leaf arrangement with a gold cloth bow. This arrangement was a gift from my brother & sister-in-law. I love the vibrant fall colors in this arrangement and use it often in my October and November tablescapes.
Other Centerpieces/table decorations are Bristle Brush Animals. I searched Hobby Lobby, Old Town Spring shops in Spring, Texas, and Homegoods, to find the various animals shown on the plates, and a few other animals as well. (Because what fall animal table is really complete without a squirrel?)
The Owl family is one of my favorite “finds” as it has a mom, dad, and son, so is like our family in that way.
I added a few other “Fall Critter” items to the dining room to continue the “theme”. The first of these is the Bristle Raccoon pair shown above.
I also added a fox, and an squirrel to the exterior doors in the dining room . These wall hangings were a Dollar Tree find in 2022.
My final dining room decoration was a fall leaf candle ring that I added to my antique candle stand.
