A Valentine’s Day Tablescape with Mickey and Minnie Mouse

This Tablescape is a part of the “Disney Sketchbook Holiday Series”

If this is your first time to my website – Welcome to the lake!! I’m glad you’re here! If you have been here before – Welcome Back! I hope you are having a wonderful 2024!! Those of you who have visited my website before are likely already familiar with the “Disney Sketchbook Holiday Series” – which started with a summer “Drawing Disney Tablescape” and morphed into a challenge I set for myself to see if I could do a tablescape for each Holiday using the Disney Sketchbook Dishes and Serving pieces, and often reusing the Disney flatware, mugs, glasses and napkin rings and sometimes even reusing the Disney Plush Character centerpieces as well. The idea is to be able to use one set of dishes, to create about 13 different holiday tablescapes. The goal is to not have to purchase 13 pricey sets of dishes to celebrate the holidays, and also to not have to find a way to store 13 different sets of dishes. (Not that I’m against having lots of sets of dishes…as I LOVE dishes…and I guess that kind of explains my storage problem, doesn’t it?!?) Anyway, my hope is that these tablescapes will inspire Disney enthusiasts, friends, parents and grandparents to plan some “holiday kids’ tables” or tables for “kids at heart”.

My most recent Disney Tablescape was the above Lunar New Year Tablescape (see above) The Disney Plush Mickey and Minnie sets, used as Centerpieces, were actually from Shanghai Disneyland which made the tablescape really special to me.

Today’s Tablescape celebrates Valentine’s Day, and with it, love and gift giving!! As Mickey and Minnie celebrate Valentine’s Day with a date in the “park” (on a park bench) Minnie is giving Mickey chocolates, and Mickey is giving Minnie flowers, and each one of them brought two balloons to give as well.

The catalyst for this tablescape was finding a Minnie and Mickey Mouse plush, at Homegoods, about a year ago. Both Mickey and Minnie are dressed in their best Valentine’s Day apparrel! Based on those outfits, I decided the color scheme would be red and white, with just a touch of Pink.

Had they been dressed in pink, I may have considered combining them with conversation heart tablescape, but red and white seemed best for this Mickey and Minnie pair.

I first considered using the red tablecloth I often use with Mickey and Minnie Tablescapes, but then I remembered that I had also purchased red and white gingham heart shaped placemats a few years ago from Homegoods, and I thought they would be perfect with Mickey and Minnie.

The placemats are reversible – gingham on one side and solid red on the other. I didn’t hesitate to purchase them because I knew that I would at some point have use for either one side, or the other.

I was excited to get to use the red and white gingham placemats with this Tablescape, and I liked them so much that I added some additional gingham to the Tablescape – did you notice it? The flowers Mickey is giving to Minnie have a red and white gingham bow, as does the vase on the table that is filled with red roses.

Gingham Ribbon is also a part of the chandelier decorations.

As with almost all of the Disney tablescapes so far, my featured plates are the Zrike Disney Sketchbook salad plates. I love that they show how to “Draw Disney” and that they celebrate the animators as well as the characters.

Underneath my plate stack, is a red and white gingham heart placemat.

The first plate in the stack is the red Kate Spade Plate.

A Zrike Sketchbook plate is the top plate on the stack. These plates are available with Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy. and Pluto.

The Minnie Mouse Plate is pictured above.

Other Items in the Place Setting

Each place setting also includes a Mickey or Minnie mug,

and Mickey Icon flatware from shopdisney.com.

and a vintage wine goblet, in the golf ball pattern, from Morgantown Glass. Goblet is pictured above and below. For more about Morgantown Glass, please see my “Will You Be My Valentine?” Tablescape post.

Each place setting also includes a white cotton napkin with a lace edge, and a Ceramic or Resin Valentine’s Day Napkin Ring.

Centerpieces and Table Decorations on the table are in the center of the Tablescape an at both ends.

In the center of the table is a vase of roses, a ceramic 3 heart decoration, a ceramic “love” sign…

and 2 red heart Padden City vintage candle holders, with white “moving wick” taper candles,

above – close-up of the Paden City Candle Holders

On the end of the table, I have a Valentine’s radio, a “love is all you need sign”, and a Valentine’s day mailbox with Mickey and Minnie Valentine’s Day Cards.

At the other end of the table Mickey and Minnie are exchanging Valentine’s Day Gifts.

At the other end of the table is the “Valentine’s Day Scene” which includes Mickey and Minnie and the gifts they are giving to each other.

Other items around the dining room include …

hearts and other Valentine’s Day decorations in the window sill

Golden Retriever Love Figurine (on small chest of drawers), and Valentine’s Day dog figurine on the windowsill.

Heart decorations on the door.

I hope you enjoyed this Valentine’s Day Celebration with Mickey and Minnie !!! I want to wish you Very Happy Valentine’s Day!! I hope you have a fun celebration with friends and/or family, and that most of all, the day makes you feel special and reminds you how wonderful you are!!!!!! I’d love it if you could scroll down to the bottom of this post and share any of your special memories of Valentine’s Days in the past, or plans for future Valentine’s days.

As I was working on the tablescape this week, the weather and happenings outside the window kept capturing my interest, so I wanted to share some of that with you.

Normally I have a few different times of the day when I take photos of my tablescapes – as the lighting effects the table differently and I like to capture that. This week all of those times of day were cloudy and gray, and caused havac with my picture taking.

If you follow my website, you know I often try to share a sunset with you in tablescape post, as I love the sunsets so much. However, the last 3 days the clouds and rain have completely obliterated the view of the sun. So my apologies for no sunset pictures. I will try to take some photos in the following days if we can see the sunset and add them in later.

Two days this week had what I call the “Brigadoon” view (referring to the musical “Brigadoon and the fictional Scottish village that appears in the fog only once every 100 years). Actually what you are seeing across the lake is a subdivision in the neighboring city. The second thing you are seeing in the photo has only happened 3 times since we have lived here – it has rained so much and for so many days that the water is coming over the bulkhead .

Earlier yesterday morning, our dog, Simba, barked furiously at the door (a bark he usually reserves for squirrel and the blue heron, racoon or otters that have trespassed in “his” side of the yard. This time however, he barked at the water that was just starting to come over the bulkhead. Although he loves water, even he knew this wasn’t a good idea! However, by night fall, he had changed his mind and was in “awe” of the water, and not happy with us for not allowing him to play in the “underwater” part of the yard.

Also outside the window, this week we had a lost boat that needed to be reported to the constable – marine division. It apparently “ran away” from it’s dock when the tons of rain we have had recently, raised the lake level and the boat just floated out. Fortunately it was unharmed, and the constable was able to find its owners. (Kudos to our constable dept., sheriff’s dept., fire dept., tow boat drivers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and all others, including boaters and residents, who help keep our lake a safer place by being available in emergencies and by calling in loose watercraft!!!!!)

The skies this week demonstated many “dressed in gray” colors and patterns.

The lake water kept rising at the dock.

Then this morning we discovered that the water has almost completely covered our back yard, dock floor and walkway.

View from this morning – in normal conditions we have “backyard” from the house to just past the palm trees on the right, and up to the dock on the left.

Our lake is manmade and controlled by a “river authority” who uses the dam to control water levels. Our lake is also a backup water supply for a large city. The River Authority is releasing some water now, and we are hoping that the realease will happen quickly enough that our flooded yard will not have too much damage to spa motor, grill controls, wooden walkway, and dock boards. Please send thoughts and prayers out for those on or near the lake that sit at a lower elevation than us, and some prayers for our pets who just can’t figure out why they are not allowed in the backyard – especially the retrievers who want to swim in the water that is now their yard!

Hi Patty, I just wanted to say that I love the tablescape design you shared. The color scheme is so cute! I also wanted to express my sympathy for those affected by the recent events and those who are at lower elevations.- You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Stephanie, I’m so glad you liked my Mickey and Minnie Valentine’s Day Tablescape!! Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers about the flooding in our yard. The first day they let water out at the dam it was not going out as fast as rain was coming down, but in 1-2 days we were back to normal. We lost a lot of deck boards on the dock and walkway but other than that did well – no water in the house PTL!! Unfortunately some in our surrounding towns were not as lucky so we are keeping them in our prayers. Simba is very happy to have his yard back! as are we! Thanks so much! Have a great week! -Patty
